We have been looking at possibilities for developing affordable private home design utilising commonly found panel construction techniques. It uses a mono-volume space in order to reduce construction cost. The master bedroom and sanitary unit as well as boiler room and storage spaces are encased inside two boxes which can be configured freely according to the clients' lifestyle. The upper, duplex level can be study area or children's open bedroom connected by a ladder or spiral stairs. It utilises floor heating combined with a cast iron stove or a fireplace for added coziness and thermal comfort. The ground floor is elevated so that there is a possibility of under-floor or basement storage spaces. The floor is off the ground to fit well in the colder regions where snow may be deep. The simple construction allows extra spaces to be added later or the internal spaces reconfigured and new openings for windows can be made.
