This design was prepared for an architectural competition to renovate an existing Soviet-era multi-purpose culture centre building. The building is upgraded to contain a 500-seat theatre, an art gallery, a small cafe, a tourist information office, a youth activity spaces and so on. The brief outlined a few crucial points such as improved internal circulation, enlarged theatre and related function spaces the added and enlarged functions are to fit inside a unique and logically designed building shell while the form is closely related to the surrounding urban and natural environment.
We looked at the colour and natural landscape which make the town of Nida so special. The white sand dunes, the sea, the beaches, the pine forests and the history of fishing villages near by. The most characteristic element which forms the nature of the setting was the wind which shifts the dunes and create waves in the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic sea.
