This aged yet attractive late Jugendstil - National Romanticism period building of Riga, Latvia houses an apartment that we renovated.
The condition of the apartment was acceptable as there was no water or fire damage and the rooms were dry. There were a few problems which we had to creatively solve. First of all, none of the rooms had floor finish that was flat nor level. The walls were crooked and doorway were not right angle. There was no en-suite sanitary which was crucial when adapting to the modern lifestyle.
Levelling the floor gave us a sort of reference point that walls were made straight then the bathroom and kitchen spaces were built.
The floor heating eliminates the need for the large boiler and radiators and the original stove was maintained so that even on the coldest winter night the resident could stay comfortable inside.
